Educational programs

One of the goals of the exhibition of relics and artefacts of the holy monastery of Skiadi is to communicate with its visitors and to disseminate knowledge through the use of experiential methods and practices.

The museopedagogical program "My Virgin Mary Skiadeni, immaculate and good maiden!" has been designed with this purpose in mind. The program was structured in a way that it can be adapted and implemented at each level of education, while also taking into account the special characteristics of each student group. It utilizes displays and other constructs of the exhibition which are mainly aimed at people with visual impairments, as their very nature facilitates an approach to the objects in them which is multi-sensory and experiential.

The activities of the program concern the history of the Skiadi monastery and the customs of the celebration of Panagia Skiadeni. More specifically, the history of the site where the Byzantine church was built, its iconographic program, the relics and artefacts comprising the exhibition, and the customs associated with the monastery. The museopedagogical kit includes activity notebooks, floor games, memory and exploration games, as well as other materials which are suitable for experiential activities. The kit also includes an instruction booklet, addressed to the educator, with detailed information about all the programs.
